Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” (Isaiah 2:3)
One of the first scenes of Jesus’ life, recorded on the pages of the first Gospel, sets the stage for His mission here on earth. It is almost certain to believe that in Matthew 5:1 the evangelist intentionally points out that Jesus begins his first steps in ministry by preaching from a hill. Even today, this sermon is widely known as “The Sermon on the Mount.” What was so important about the hill? In this context, in the same way that Jesus would expound the law of God from this mountain, it recalls the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai, where from this hill, through thundering and lightning, God proclaimed his Law to Moses and the people of Israel. The hill also plays other significant roles in Scripture. It is from a hill that Abraham would offer up his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice, pointing to another hill where Jesus would give his life as the true sacrifice by which the gates of hell would be destroyed and the kingdom of God would once again be established. Isaiah speaks also about the setting up of God’s eschatological kingdom on a mountain, where all nations will come to learn about our Eternal Creator.
Hilltop Media is thus ministry that aims through creative audiovisual content to invite second and third-generation Adventist youth and young adults to come to the mountain of God, to learn from Him.
Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the collaboration between Pastor Peter J. Ahn (Adventist Discipleship Center) and Daniel Duffis Jr. (seminarian, 89-group), in 2015 a group of young people at Andrews University came together to tackle the massive flight of youth and young adults from the Adventist churches in North America, especially amongst the second and third generation Korean Americans. Inaugurated in September 2015 by the Adventist Discipleship Center and Living Word Fellowship Church (Michigan SDA Conference), a symbolic 89-group (comprised of team members born in 1989) started this journey of creating relevant, online resources to share with their peers and upcoming generation about the beauty of God, to foster discipleship and spiritual growth and initiate an evangelistic effort amongst this specific community. We believe that Hilltop Media is a ministry for youth by youth, to bring the Gospel of Christ in fresh and new ways for a generation that is lost and looking for hope!
We believe that discipleship should be at the core of every ministry. Our team includes both wise, faithful elders who work together and guide the energetic and creative young adults, creating an environment for discipleship along the journey of life.
